Sydney - Oscar-winning actor Russell Crowe is set to make his directorial debut this year with a feature film about a gang of sometimes violent surfers in a Sydney beach suburb, news reports said on Friday.
Local papers quoting industry bible Variety report that New Zealand-born Crowe wants to turn the surprisingly successful Bra Boys documentary into a feature.
Bra Boys, narrated by Crowe, is a box-office hit in Australia.
It lionises the outlaw mentality of the three Abberton brothers, one of whom stood trial last year for murder. It became the country's most commercially successful documentary.
Crowe, 43, spends most of his time in Sydney, the city where he grew up and began his acting career.
