'Pregnant' Nicole scared of jail
07/06/2007 13:42 - (SA)
Los Angeles - Nicole Richie is pregnant, Bang Showbiz.com reports.
The 26-year-old - renowned for her skinny frame - sparked rumours after being photographed with an apparent baby bump.
Now it has been claimed she has undergone a series of pregnancy tests which have confirmed she is expecting.
A source told Life and Style Weekly magazine: "Nicole recently underwent a series of tests, including blood and urine screenings, which confirmed she is pregnant."
Special diet for the sake of unborn child
Last Wednesday - just days after her alcohol-fuelled Memorial Day barbecue - Nicole was photographed outside a reproductive clinic.
She is said to be going on a special diet for the sake of her unborn child.
An insider said: "Nicole's determined to get healthy for her own sake and the baby's."
The Simple Life star's representative has refused to comment on the reports.
Nicole, the adopted daughter of singer Lionel Richie, is currently dating Good Charlotte front man Joel Madden and the couple are reported to be engaged.
Jail for Richie?
In the meantime Associated Press reports that Richie told David Letterman she is worried about landing in jail along with her celebrity buddy Paris Hilton.
During a taping for Letterman's talk show on Wednesday Richie said: "I'm just keeping my fingers crossed, and, you know, of course, I'm scared also, but, you know, I'm willing to face whatever consequences come my way, and I take responsibility for what I've done," she said.
Richie, the 25-year-old daughter of pop singer Lionel Richie, pleaded not guilty in February to driving under the influence.
She was arrested December 11 and volunteered she had smoked marijuana and taken the prescription painkiller Vicodin, but no drugs were found on her or in the car, police said.
Richie already had a 2003 misdemeanour DUI conviction.
Previous legal troubles
The California vehicle code says if convicted of DUI twice within 10 years, a person can be sentenced to between 90 days and a year in jail and have his or her driving privileges suspended.
During the Late Show taping, Letterman asked Richie, who acknowledged previous legal troubles, when she will learn her fate if convicted.
"Probably the end of this month," she responded.
A sympathetic Letterman wished her the best, saying, "I hope you don't have to go to jail."
