Los Angeles - He is yet to kick a ball in anger for his new team in Los Angeles, but David Beckham and wife Victoria are being welcomed like Hollywood royalty in his new home town.

According to the Los Angeles Times on Thursday, A-list couples Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, and Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith are to hold a Welcome to America party on Sunday for the glamorous British newcomers.

Invitations to the party at the Museum of Contemporary Art in downtown Los Angeles were printed on red velvet with gold lettering and have been sent out to movers and shakers in the entertainment capital.

'A-list only'

The 600-person, invitation-only list includes Oprah Winfrey, George Clooney, Jim Carrey, Anjelica Huston, Steven Spielberg, David Geffen, producers Jerry Bruckheimer and Brian Grazer, Warner Bros studio boss Alan Horn and Universal Pictures chief Ron Meyer.

"This is the hardest party to get into," said one person with knowledge of the affair. "It's A-list only. And, no press." - dpa
