Venice - Oscar-nominated actor Owen Wilson is "doing very well" following a suicide attempt last week, Wes Anderson, the director of the star's most recent film, said here on Monday.
"Owen wishes he could be with us. We all miss having him. Obviously, he's been through quite a lot this week. He's doing very well, he's making us laugh," Anderson told reporters at the Venice Film Festival.
"We wish to protect his privacy and his wish to keep his right to speak for himself," he added.
Wilson plays one of three brothers on a spiritual journey of discovery in India in The Darjeeling Limited which Anderson was to unveil in Venice later on Monday.
Appeal for privacy
The 38-year-old comedian was found at his home by family members on August 26 after attempting to kill himself. He has appealed for privacy since being admitted to hospital.
Wilson is regarded as one of Hollywood's most bankable actors, having appeared in a string of hit comedies including Wedding Crashers and Zoolander.
He was nominated for an Academy Award for his writing work on another Anderson movie, The Royal Tenenbaums in 2001.
Wilson was romantically linked to You, Me and Dupree co-star Kate Hudson although their relationship recently ended.
