50 Cent cancels concert dates
18/09/2007 11:42 - (SA)
London - Rapper 50 Cent cancelled a string of European dates on Monday after hip hop rival Kanye West struck the first blow in their much-anticipated chart battle, MTV said.
50 Cent - whose real name is Curtis Jackson - has vowed to retire as a solo artist if West's new album, Graduation, outsells his latest work, Curtis.
The rivals are awaiting results from the US Billboard charts on Wednesday, but UK sales figures point to a likely victory for West.
West beat 50 Cent to No 1 spot in Britain's album chart on Sunday, the Official UK Charts Company said.
'Unforeseen changes'
50 Cent was due to perform at the Mobo award show and the Vodafone Live Music Awards, both in London, on Wednesday, followed by a performance for MTV in Germany on Friday.
But MTV News said on Monday the rapper had postponed the appearances due to unforeseen changes to his schedule.
No details of the announcement were posted on the rapper's website and Polydor Records, 50 Cent's record label in the UK, was not immediately available to comment.
