  • Los Angeles - Paris Hilton's new movie is a box office flop.

The Hottie and the Nottie was given a limited released in the US at the weekend and grossed just $9 000 - an average of $76 per showing.

It was also panned by reviewers, with one Los Angeles newspaper calling it "a blot on even Paris Hilton's dignity".

The romantic comedy, originally set to be released straight to DVD, follows the exploits of a man desperate to woo Paris' character but must first find a boyfriend for Paris' ugly best friend.

The US box office hit of the weekend was Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey's on-screen reunion in romantic comedy Fool's Gold, which took $22m.

Paris, who went on a lengthy promotional tour of the US to publicise the film, is believed to be devastated by the poor audience numbers.

A source close to the star said: "After her attempts at being a pop star failed, she really wanted to be a proper actress.

"It's hard to see how any studio or director will touch her after this." - Bang Showbiz.com
