Cape Town - Amy Winehouse's husband nearly died after a heroin overdose in London's Pentonville Prison, various websites have reported on Sunday.

According to the Daily Mail, Blake Fielder-Civil was hurried to Pentonville Prison's hospital block after guards found him writhing with pain and violently vomiting in his cell.

Prison officers later discovered that the drug was a toxic hybrid of heroin and other potent chemicals.

A jail source told The News Of The World that it was a "close call".

"He's being very stupid. It's only because everyone reacted so quickly that this dodgy gear didn't do long-term harm."

The scare comes just days after Blake was locked in solitary confinement for failing three random drug tests.

Blake was apparently fearful for his relationship amid rumours that the Grammys five-award winner has been enjoying herself with American photographer and artist, Blake Wood.

In the meantime, troubled singer Amy, who is battling her own recovery from drugs, was seen leaving her Camden house with a painted teardrop on her face, looking very tired and withdrawn, the Daily Mail reported.
