  • Los Angeles - Hollywood power couple Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt donated more than $8m to charity in 2006 according to tax records, it was reported on Friday.

Fox News reported on its website that the actors funnelled more than $4m each to the Jolie Pitt Foundation, which was set up two years ago to aid humanitarian causes around the world.

According to federal tax records, the foundation handed out around $2.4m in donations in 2006, including $1m to both Doctors without Borders and the Global Aids Alliance.

Other cash gifts included $137 935 to the Namibia Red Cross Action Programme, the country where the couple's biological daughter Shiloh was born.

A donation of $100 000 was also made to the Daniel Pearl Foundation, a trust set up to honour the former Wall Street Journal reporter murdered by Islamic extremists in Pakistan. Jolie played Pearl's widow Marianne in last year's acclaimed film A Mighty Heart.

In addition, $20 000 was donated to an art park in Los Angeles while two orphanages visited by Jolie received $5 000 each.

Pitt, 44, and Jolie, 32, are currently reported to be expecting their second child. Pitt and Jolie met on the set of their 2005 film Mr and Mrs Smith and later began a romantic relationship.

Pitt was previously married to Friends,/i> star Jennifer Aniston, while Jolie has been married twice before.
