Madonna wins 13th No 1 single
21/04/2008 11:48  - (SA)

  • London - Thirteen proved a lucky number for pop diva Madonna as she notched up her thirteenth British number one single with Four Minutes, the Official UK Charts Company said on Sunday.

A collaboration with Justin Timberlake, Four Minutes climbed three places to knock American Boy by Estelle - featuring Kanye West - off the top spot, while Sam Sparro's electro-soul single Black and Gold dropped from one to three.

With more UK number ones than any other female solo artists, this was the first time Madonna has released a single featuring a guest artist.

With no new entries in the top 10, the highest mover was the Last Shadow Puppets' The Age of Understatement - a collaboration between Alex Turner of the Arctic Monkeys and the Rascals' Miles Kane - which rose 15 places to nine.

    Leona Lewis

There was more fluidity in the album charts, with Brighton rock band the Kooks going straight to number one with their latest long player Konk.

Former X-Factor winner Leona Lewis and Spirit rose three to number two, with pop singer Mariah Carey's E=MC2 going straight in at three.

Last week's number one Rockferry by soul singer Duffy dropped to four, while Elliot Minor's eponymous album was the third new album in the top 10, coming in at six.
