Barcelona, Spain - Batman star Christian Bale has asked for privacy in allegations he assaulted his mother and sister in a London hotel.

The Welsh-born actor says the incident is a "deeply personal matter," in his first public comments since the incident. Bale made the comment on Thursday at a news conference in Barcelona during a tour to promote his new movie, Batman: The Dark Knight.

Bale spent four hours talking to British police on Tuesday following allegations he assaulted his mother and one of his three sisters in his suite at London's Dorchester Hotel two days earlier.
