Mel B sells for charity

London - Former Spice Girls singer Melanie Brown is to auction the contents of her home, including outfits and items from the British girl band's heyday, after her move to the United States.

Popularly known as Scary Spice or Mel B, Brown has put the memorabilia up for auction online to raise money for a charity that cares for children and young people suffering from cancer.

Among the collectibles open to bids are costumes from the recent Spice Girls reunion tour, the coat from the Stop video and her trademark fake fur outfit consisting of a bikini top and matching mini-skirt.

The items will also include the outfit she wore when she and her fellow Spice Girls met former South African President Nelson Mandela.

A motorbike, Bechstein baby grand piano and MTV Cribs dining table will also be up for grabs.

Auction follows move

Fans will even be able to get their hands on jugs, tables and toasters.

Bidders can go to website between September 26 and October 26, with all proceeds going to CLIC Sargent.

The charity has teamed up with philanthropic bidding network Buy Once Give Twice and internet auction site eBay.

The auction follows Mel B's move to the west coast of the United States.

"I feel happy to be able to contribute to such an important cause," the 33-year-old singer said in a statement.

The Spice Girls were one of the most successful female groups of all time, selling more than 55 million records in the late 1990s, before the band broke up and the members embarked on solo careers.

They briefly reformed for a reunion tour in December 2007.

The auction follows a similar one by Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne who put the contents of his Beverly Hills home up for sale last year, raising about £400 000 ($735 300) for charity.
