Cape Town - A career as an international author may be on the cards for writer and musician, Koos Kombuis, after his controversial book, The Secret Diary of God, was snatched up by an American bookshop chain.
About 3 500 copies of Kombuis's book, which describes the history of man from God's perspective, will be on sale in American bookshops as of September.
Marlene Fryer of Zebra Press, publisher of the book, said the American distribution agency, BHB International, came to a standstill when they read Kombuis's book.
"Everybody was running around, telling each other about the book. They are crazy about it."
"The humour in the book is universal," Fryer said. Bookshops in England, Australia and New Zealand will also have the book on their shelves in two weeks time.
Kombuis said he would only become excited about his "international career" once Americans start buying the book. "I am holding thumbs that Americans will buy the book. I am not over the first hurdle yet," he said.
A chapter from the novel has been published on the internet journal LitNet.
