  • Cape Town - An online bookmaker says Miss South Africa Cindy Nell is the favourite to win this year's Miss World beauty pageant to be held in China.

The first betting agency to open a Miss World book, Australian company Centrebet, rates Miss South Africa (10-1) above Miss Canada (12-1), Miss Ireland (14-1), Miss Norway (14-1), Miss Switzerland (14-1), Miss India (16-1) and the host country's delegate, Miss People's Republic of China (16-1). The final is on December 6.

But the Springboks (22-1) have not proved to be too popular. They are Centrebet's fifth favourites for the Rugby World Cup as the Boks prepare to meet New Zealand (6-4) in the first quarter-final on Saturday.

The 1995 champions are 2-11 to lose on Saturday, 5-1 to lose in the semi-finals and 14-1 to finish as runners-up on Centrebet's performance market.

"Third at this year's Miss Universe contest, Cindy's combination of brains and beauty sends men weak at the knees," says Centrebet's Mark Worwood.

"Rugby fans are not so enamoured with the Boks, though, and very few punters envisage them beating the All Blacks on Saturday, let alone regaining possession of the Webb Ellis Trophy."
