Port Elizabeth - Heinz Winckler has his songs and a new wardrobe ready for the international Idols competition to be held in London next month.
Heinz is undertaking a tour of the Eastern Cape at the moment and told Die Burger that he is excited about the competition, but couldn't elaborate, because the organisers wanted to make an announcement shortly.
He has already tried on clothes from Trigger YDE and Carducci for the international competition.
He has chosen three songs, Drops of Jupiter, I don't wanna miss a thing and Soledad that he would like to perform at the competition.
The organisers will, however, have the final say.
And what does he think he's chances of winning are? "One out of 12.
"I'm definitely going to London to win and is working hard towards that goal. Exposure at that competition is immense and 12 Idols on one CD means a lot of money."
He says Britain's Will Young and Kelly Clarkson of the US have an advantage, because they are known internationally. "The world knows their music, names and faces, but on the other hand there's also a winner from Poland, who hasn't been introduced to the international market, the same as me."
"The Australian idol will be announced only at the end of the month," he says.
Other countries taking part in the competition are, among others, Canada, Belgium and Germany.
Heinz says only three of the 12 are women. "It's important to me to know my competitors' strong and weak points. Some will do everything possible to win with their voices and others will wear surprising clothes. I will make sure I'm competitive, but will remain myself."
He doesn't know what the prizes are, but thinks an international contract could be included.
Heinz hasn't renewed his contract with his present manager, because he says it makes sense to get an international manager if he wants to crack the international market.
He appears in the Uitenhage city hall at 20:00 on Thursday and will be on stage in Cradock at 19:00 on Friday.
On Saturday he'll be at Queen's College in Queenstown.
