Cape Town - South Africa's first Idols winner, Heinz Winckler, leaves the country on Friday for London where he will take part in a World Idols competition.
Winckler will compete against 10 other Idols winners - including the enormously popular Will Young from Britain and Kelly Clarkson from the United States.
The first round in the competition takes place on December 16 and will be broadcast at 20:00 on M-Net.
Idols fans around the globe will be able to vote for their favourite 24 hours a day. The finals will be on January 1. The winner will be announced on the same day.
An excited Winckler said he was thrilled to be taking part in an international event.
Each of the 11 contestants get to sing only one song. Winckler has chosen to sing Drops of Jupiter.
Between now and the finals, Winckler has two concerts scheduled in South Africa. Once they are behind him, he will return to Britain for the finals.
Both concerts are scheduled for the Eastern Cape. On December 22, he will perform in Port Elizabeth and, on December 23, in Jeffreys Bay. Tickets cost R50 each. Bookings can be made through 041 583 2030.
