Nelspruit - Party animals can rock to the sounds of Lucky Dube and Ringo Madlingozi in Mpumalanga this weekend, knowing their money will be used to help abused women and children.

The annual People's Bank Traditional Music Concert Against Women and Child Abuse takes place at the Nelspruit Showgrounds on Saturday.

Last year, the concert raised R150 000 for NGOs that care for abused women and children.

"They shared R150 000 in the form of clothing, blankets, food and cash," said managing director of Ziyaphenduka Promotions, Bruce Kgapane.

He said the beneficiaries of this year's concert will be announced after the event.

Joining Dube and Madlingozi will be Malaika, Ihashi Elimhlophe, Thandiswa Mazwai and Zamambo.

The gates open at 08:30 and the show is expected to start at noon.

Entrance is R100 per person and security is expected to be tight, with police and security guards patrolling the venue.

"We won't hesitate to lock up anyone who takes advantage and commits a crime in or outside the venue," said Lowveld police spokesperson, Captain Thabisile Gama.
