  • Johannesburg - Comatose pop diva Brenda Fassie's family was "extremely saddened and angry" at media reports that the singer had died.

A close friend of the family, Tido Bam, said on Tuesday the family was still perturbed as to where the reports emanated from.

"We are extremely angry at these lies and we are wondering where the media got them from," she said at Sunninghill hospital where Fassie was being treated.

Some newspapers reported sensational and unsubstantiated claims over the weekend, including that Fassie was brain dead.

The singer was hospitalised on Monday last week following an asthma attack, which led to cardio-respiratory arrest.

By 11:30 on Tuesday several family members and close friends of Fassie had arrived at the hospital to visit the singer.

There were no crowds or media outside as on previous occasions.
