Fassie still in a coma

Johannesburg - Pop diva Brenda Fassie was in a stable condition and breathing on her own by Tuesday night, but remained in a coma, said her brother, Boyce Fiyo.
"Brenda has not yet woken up, but she is in a stable condition and all her body parts are functioning. She is off the respirator," he said.
Fassie was taken to hospital on Monday last week after an asthma attack which led to cardio-respiratory arrest.
Doctors were able to resuscitate her, but she fell into a coma.
On Tuesday afternoon, her recording company, EMI, said Fassie's condition remained "neurologically unchanged", and doctors at Sunninghill Hospital were still studying brain scans and could give no new information.
However, she was responding well to the treatment for her lung infection.
President Thabo Mbeki and African National Congress heavyweights Kgalema Motlanthe and Smuts Ngonyama visited Fassie on Monday, as did the ministers of foreign affairs and home affairs, Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma and Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula.
On Tuesday, Arts and Culture Minister Pallo Jordan and his deputy Ntombazana Botha went into the intensive-care unit carrying baskets of roses.
Musicians Yvonne Chaka Chaka and Arthur Mafokate also paid her a visit.
Despite the parade of public figures, EMI said Brenda's family had found time for quiet prayer at her bedside.
