Johannesburg - Brad Pitt is one of a number of celebrities expected to take part in a musical to celebrate Nelson Mandela's 87th birthday on July 18, 2005.
The show titled - A Mandela Portrait - will be held at venues across the world.
The production celebrates Mandela's life and will be filmed at the State Theatre next Monday. It will be broadcast on SABC2 on December 1 - which is World Aids Day.
At the unveiling of the project on Wednesday, Zindzi Mandela-Hlongwane, Mandela's daughter, said that it is "wonderful to see how many ways Madiba's life can be celebrated.
"Madiba is my father and my leader. Sometimes I prefer him being my leader because he is a very strict father!"
In A Mandela Portrait, Zindzi conducts an interview with her dad. The performance includes videos, photos, and some of Madiba's famous speeches, which will be read by storytellers.
For USA broadcasts, Morgan Freeman, and possibly Pitt, will be used. For France, actress Catherine Deneuve will take part.
British-born composer Michael Hankinson and South African director Welcome Msomi will produce the Portrait. Proceeds from donations, ticket sales and DVDs will go to the Nelson Mandela Foundation.
John Samuels, head of the foundation, said they do not just want to hang Mandela's memories in a museum.
"Therefore we are combining words and music to tell Madiba's story."
