Johannesburg - "I am terribly excited and not yet nervous, although the nerves will probably set in when the reality of the competition kicks in."
This was Miss South Africa, Claudia Henkel's take on Wednesday on the upcoming Miss Universe competition in Thailand at the end of May.
She was visiting the Tshwane University of Technology on Wednesday with television presenter and businesswoman Gerri Rantselli who is helping Sun International organise the Miss South Africa competition.
Aspiring beauty queens lapped up every word when Henkel spoke about the benefits that her title brings. She then granted the campus radio station, Top Stereo, an interview.
Henkel was very nervous during her brief visit to former president Nelson Mandela on Wednesday morning.
"My legs turned into jelly. One cannot help but feel humble in his presence."
Henkel will be celebrating her 22nd birthday at Sun City on Friday and plans to visit the Tapologo Aids Hospice in Rustenberg, her dedicated charity organisation.
