Johannesburg - From age four to 40, a crowd of thousands forgetting about school and work rocked to Canadian superstar Avril Lavigne in Johannesburg on Sunday night.
Lavigne, a 19-year-old who has won several music awards, had the crowd calling for more as she belted out hits including Sk8ter Boi and Complicated.
"It's the first time we're in your country. We went out last night and had lots of fun," Lavigne giggled before calling on her fans to "rock".
The crowd consisted mainly of concerned parents and their daughters, who in typical Lavigne style, were dressed in mini skirts and wore dark eye shadow.
"We don't often let the kids stay out this late, especially when it's school the next day. But, they'll probably only get to see Avril once," said father Oliver Stanley.
Lavigne, on her international Bonez Tour will perform in Durban on Tuesday and in Cape Town on Friday.
