Johannesburg - With 22 years of experience in sexual well-being, sexologist Dr Elna McIntosh no longer blushes.
In fact, she is so comfortable with her occupation that along with DJ Mark Pilgrim, she will co-host a TV programme called Sex Etc.
The show debuts on Wednesday night at 22:05 on M-Net and is a joint project between M-Net, Bayer and Health24.com.
Health24 will feature in-depth articles on the topics discussed on the show. Viewers will also be able to post questions to an expert online, to complete quizzes and to chat to others with similar concerns.
"I hope our show can help people find their sexual orientation," said McIntosh. "That people know things can change but at the same time make peace with what happens to them."
Wednesday's show will deal with infidelity in relationships. Sex addiction, erectile dysfunction and sexual fantasies will also come under the spotlight in the 13-part series.
"Big Mac" (McIntosh's nickname) studied at the Institute for Advanced Studies of Human Sexuality in San Fransisco. Wardell Pomeroy, who was an assistant to the world-renowned sex researcher Alfred C Kinsey, also tutored her. Both men were immortalised in the movie Kinsey.
"Wardell taught us what he learnt from Kinsey. He was ancient when I took lessons with him but he taught me that you don't blink an eye, lift an eyebrow, you only ask the questions," said McIntosh.
She calls her TV appearance an "extreme make-over". "It takes four hours to do my make up, hair and nails, so if people don't recognise me on TV it's because I am buried under seven inches of make up," she said.
