Cape Town - Popular KFM breakfast DJ Nic Marais was hijacked in front of his flat in the city after a hockey practice on Tuesday evening.
According to a statement the two hijackers made off with his cellphone, vehicle and wallet.
Marais was not injured.
A spokesperson, Craig Doonan, said a tracking company found Marais' vehicle after 35 minutes.
The vehicle was returned to him.
According to KFM station manager Colleen Louw, the two hijackers told Marais to get down on the ground.
"They took his wallet and cellphone, then jumped into his vehicle and made their getaway.
"The vehicle was found undamaged in Table View."
Marais said he is convinced that his life was saved because he did exactly what the hijackers told him to do.
"I really want to thank whoever it was that got it into my skull not to be a hero. It probably saved my life."
He said the experience really shook him but at the same time he was thankful for the support of his colleagues and KFM listeners.
Marais shared his experience with his listeners over the air on Thursday morning.
