Cape Town - Several Egoli actors and members of the production team will be attending a memorial service for Lesego Mabidikane, better known as Amber in the popular soapie, in Soweto on Thursday.
Mabidikane died on Saturday.
Burgert Muller, a co-director of the programme, confirmed on Wednesday evening that Mabidikane was sick before she died, but he could not provide more information.
"We are all very shocked and sad about her death and want to express our deepest sympathy with her family."
Mabidikane began in the role of a waiter in Nora's (Christine Basson) coffee shop and later played the role of a Walco employee.
She left the soapie in February.
"Her contract expired and she chose not to renew it. She was still healthy then," Muller said.
The Egoli team also expressed their condolences on their website.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends. We lost a very special and dear 'family member'. We will remember her for her smile and bubbly personality. She will be missed."
Muller said a memorial service for Mabidikane will be held at 18:00 in Soweto on Thursday.
"Several members of the Egoli team will be attending," he said.
