Johannesburg - An Egoli storyline has become scarily true, after lead actress Corine du Toit was involved in a freak accident last weekend, with injuries similar to those her character Jane Edwards had just 18 months ago.
"It's surreal. In Egoli it was part of the storyline to write one actress realistically into the script to take over the lead role from another one. Fiction has become reality," said a member of the production team.
Du Toit is recovering from serious facial injuries and a broken left wrist after falling from a moving bakkie on Saturday.
When she took over the role from actress Catriona Andrews 18 months ago, scriptwriters made her character suffer serious facial injuries after falling from a horse. Her left arm was also broken.
Viewers watched Jane Edwards walking around with a bowl over her nose and cheeks and her left arm in plaster for weeks. When these were removed, Du Toit was playing the role of Andrews.
"That is exactly what Corine looks like at present. She has a similar bowl over her face and her left arm was broken. It's actually scary that a script can become reality in this way."
Actress 'doing well'
Meanwhile, Du Toit was making good progress at Union Hospital in Alberton and was "doing very well under the circumstances," her spokesperson Rasmus Jensen said on Tuesday.
"She is sitting up for short periods, she can even eat, and she can walk short distances. Doctors believe she may be able to go home on Wednesday to continue her recovery."
Du Toit's parents visited her on Tuesday.
