Johannesburg - Handsome Dr Gareth Tjasink is "back-biter No 1".
This is the view of Don Soper, 54-year-old businessman who became the first competitor of Survivor South Africa: Panama to be voted off the programme.
Soper said during a media conference that he had formed an alliance with Tjasink and Lezel Crook and was shocked to see Tjasink had voted him off.
"He's a doctor. He took the Hippocratic Oath to help people. I was very ill the last two days and he didn't even offer to help me," said Soper.
Didn't expect to be first out
He thought his age was against him from the word go: "It was an honour just to have been selected for the programme, but I knew from the start I was the underdog.
"Nevertheless, I didn't expect to be the first to be voted off."
He said that during the tribal meeting at which he was voted out, he pointed out that his team, Rana, had made a mistake by choosing a woman to lead their first challenge.
He acknowledged that this could have led to the decision to vote him off.
"It wasn't a very flattering thing to say, but I'm an honest guy. Our team led until the last few minutes of the challenge."
Referring to being sick, Soper said the heat, humidity, lack of food and water, as well as the fact that they slept on the beach where they were bitten by sand fleas had affected him. He was dehydrated and became disoriented.
"I really lost form badly and started forgetting things. I couldn't remember the names of my teammates and I started becoming paranoid.
"At one stage, I thought the other six members of my team were all actors and I was the odd-man out."
'Didn't come across well'
After leaving the island, Soper said he was pleased he had been voted off and couldn't wait to see the rest of the series.
"I'm disappointed in the way I came across.
"It looked as if I was the guy who just lazed around in the camp, but the truth is that Gareth and I virtually built the camp.
The rest of the team decided on the last day to rebuild it."
