Local film to premiere in US

Johannesburg - Fresh from their world premiere at this year's Toronto International Film Festival, director John Barker and the Bunny Chow team have announced the US premiere of the film at the American Film Institute (AFI) Festival in Los Angeles.
The festival runs from November 1-8.
The film screened to packed cinemas in Toronto and garnered strong global distributor and festival interest.
"It was our world premiere - the cinema was packed - dignitaries in attendance - I wanted to throw-up! Then my nerves quickly subsided when the audience started laughing at the South African gags. It was a wonderful world premier and I will always have fond memories of Toronto," said Barker.
"We have already been approached by a variety of global distributors and festivals. We have to now decide which ones will best assist the film in finding its audience," said Jeremy Nathan of Dv8/Deviant Selling.
"The MTV connection is a real boost, people are really excited by the possibilities for leveraging this relationship to young adults."
MTV Films Europe has boarded the project as co-producers and will assist Dv8 Films, through its new sales arm, Deviant Selling, in handling world sales. MTV will also provide a global marketing platform for the film in the territories it is released in.
Directed by Barker, and written by Barker and David Kibuuka, Bunny Chow follows the raucous and often ridiculous journey of three stand-up comedians as they make their way to OppiKoppi.
Along the way we get to indulge in their trails and tribulations, and generally unsuccessful attempts at relationships with women. Bunny Chow is a contemporary urban South African tale about young people and their journeys to self discovery, self destruction, self delusion and a good dose of selfishness.
Starring some of South Africa's funniest stand-up comedians the film is based on a story by Kibuuka, Barker, Salah Sabiti and Joey Rasdien. Bunny Chow also stars the increasingly popular Kim Engelbrecht. It is produced by Kagiso Lediga and Leanne Callanan of Dog Pack Films, and Michelle Wheatley of Dv8 Films.
Bunny Chow will be released in South Africa by Ster-Kinekor Distribution in February 2007.
