Johannesburg - British pop star Will Young has said at a media conference at Monte Casino, in Fourways Johannesburg, that he is all for same-sex marriages.
"We live in a modern world and gay marriages protect the rights of both parties," Young said in response to a question.
"You can get married to someone and get divorced a year later and take half his money," he added jokingly.
Young is in South Africa with Marcos Hernandez, Renee Olstead, Ronan Keating, Shane Ward and the group Bananarama for the Unite of the Stars gala evening and charity concert.
Actress Jane Seymour will be the master of ceremonies at Thursday's gala evening at the Coca-Cola dome in North Riding, Johannesburg.
Referring to the British paparazzi who pester celebrities, Young said he's usually a cool customer, who does not like getting tough.
"If I aim to hit someone, it tends to turn into a slap at the last moment, to everyone's embarrassment."
