Johannesburg - Stefan Ludik and Ebi Halberstadt, two of the most popular stars (and heart-throbs) in Egoli have said goodbye to the long running M-Net soapie.
And there are strong rumours that another two, Chantelle de Jager (Des) and Paul Buckby (Dr Adam), are planning to follow suit later this year.
Ludik, who has been named the sexiest man in South Africa no less than three times, played the role of attorney Werner Krantz.
Halberstadt played Braam Schoeman, who was involved in a stormy gay relationship with Krynauw (Hannes van Wyk).
Burgert Muller, co-producer of Egoli, confirmed on Wednesday that Ludik and Halberstadt had already terminated their services and left the set of Egoli.
Ludik chose not to renew his contract and is recording his second CD, and Halberstadt is busy with a stage production.
With regard to De Jager en Buckby, the story-line involving them, of their impending marriage, which ends in a fiasco, and Buckby's subsequent attempts to win back her heart, still had some steam left and no decision had been taken yet on their future in Egoli.
Three Egoli regulars had recently been written out of the series: Macks Papo (Tsheko Mashabelo), Theunis Nel (Lucas Rheeder) and his Egoli-wife, Anriëtte van Rooyen (Lizelle Rheeder).
Muller said although it all sounded like a big exodus, various newcomers would soon be making their bow in Egoli.
Izak Davel, who appeared briefly as Scab, son of Louwna (Brümilda van Rensburg) was such a hit with viewers that he had been offered a permanent contract.
