Egoli fan attacks Krynauw

Pretoria - Krynauw du Buisson (of Egoli) is one mean scoundrel.
He makes enemies wherever he goes, and he's nasty towards his beloved, Braam, who has dumped him. Even Nenna and Nora suffer from his mean actions. But, actor Hannes van Wyk probably never expected the character he plays in M-Net's top soapie, Egoli, to land him in real hot water, so to speak.
On Wednesday morning, two middle-aged English women had had enough.
When they saw Van Wyk at a filling station near the Egoli studios in Highlands, Johannesburg, their hatred for Krynauw just boiled over, and one attacked him with a mug of steaming coffee.
Kept the car idling
Van Wyk was apparently en route to the studio for the day's recordings, when he stopped off for a quick coffee at the filling station in Corlett Drive.
Little did he suspect what lay ahead. The two women recognised him at once, and stopped behind him.
While one kept the car idling, the other stormed at him, assaulted him verbally, told him that he thought himself oh-so-clever and made it clear that he was beyond redemption.
The cherry on the proverbial cake was when she called him a pig "just like my ex", and poured her mug of hot coffee over him.
Van Wyk didn't know what had hit him and arrived at the studio with a coffee-stained shirt and really ticked off. "Hannes was very upset when he got to the studio." The producers have already contacted the filling station for possible closed-circuit camera footage of the incident.
Nobody could say whether or not the actor was going to lay a charge with police.
It's not the first time that Van Wyk or other characters in Egoli have suffered from the attention of over-zealous fans.
Explaining the love plot
Chanelle de Jager (Des), his fellow star, was the victim of a verbal attack by a rather-inebriated fan in Pretoria last year.
She had to account in a pub in Sunnyside for her shaky love-life with Dr Adam Fischer (Paul Buckby). Laurie Botha, owner of Model Management and a TV expert, says it happens regularly that viewers confuse TV personalities with the characters they play on the box, and this can lead to strange incidents such as the coffee attack.
