Cape Town - It is Valentine's Day again and time for cuddly bears, flowers and lots of love.

Some well-known South Africans share their plans and expectations for this romantic day.

Comedian Dowwe Dolla always wanted a "Texas Ranger hat" for Valentine's Day. "I phoned Chuck Norris and he is starting the television reality series Cape Flats Ranger with me today."

Dolla says this programme would have a love theme, perfect for Valentine's Day. "The theme is make love, not war and people should watch to know how they could score."

Pedro Camara, known as Carlos from popular soapie 7de Laan, is planning to take his special someone to a restaurant in a coastal town. "It is very romantic, and we will have a nice dinner and enjoy the scenery. Hopefully there will be a full moon." All he wants is her "heart, soul and lots of love".

Another 7de Laan star Vinette Ebrahim, aka, Charmaine is going to work very hard on Wednesday. "If I really wanted a Valentine's gift, it would have been a week at a spa for two people. It must be in the veld with all the treatments and we must hold hands." She'll go with her "darling Ivan" or "Justin Timberlake, if I could".

Stormers captain Luke Watson is going to study a video of the Chiefs match on Valentine's Day and spend time with his friend and teammate Ross Skeate. The NFL game for Xbox would be a great gift.

Colin Moss, actor and presenter, is using the sea and champagne to his advantage to spoil his loved one. "We will be going on a boat trip to enjoy the sunset."

Zolani Mahola, lead singer of Freshlyground, plans to attend the production Nomvula: After the Rain with other members of the group.

All she wants is "love, love, love! Not only today, but every day".

      Commercialised Nonsense
    14/02/2007 11:01
I'm afraid Valentines is nothing more than successful marketing ploy, and I don't see why I or anyone else should be expected to show my affection on a day that the greeting cards companies say I should. My girlfriend and I have agreed that to pander to this crass commercial tripe would actually be offensive to our interpretation of love, and so aren't celebrating the day. The gifts I give are random, spontaneous and all year round. Carry on with your overpriced roses! - Stuart Steedman

i agree totally that days like valentine's day, mothers day and so forth are days on which a lot of people waste a lot of money doing and buying stuff that the other person seldomly appreciates. do like my husband and i do, do and buy things all year round and tell your loved one every day how you feel and appreciate everything no matter how big or small - verona fourie

      commercialised nonsense?
    14/02/2007 15:09
Well obviously you havent got aromatic bone in your body and your girlfriend is just agreeing because you probaply say so. Let lovers spend their money on nonsense if they so please afterall its theirs to "waste". How does your place of work make its money? Probaply selling stuff to people who some also think is a waste. So maybe you should keep the fact that your NOT a romantic to yourself and let others enjoy the fun! - naomi
