Johannesburg - The Egoli scriptwriters at M-Net have to do some intense brain storming to adapt two months of scripts, after the sudden death of actress Hannah Botha, who played the role of cross-but-motherly Elsa du Plessis.
Because the soapie Egoli - Place of Gold is recorded about two months in advance, new storylines have to be found in a hurry to adapt the already-completed scripts.
Botha, who at 84 was the oldest full-time actor in South Africa, felt ill last week and was admitted to the Garden City clinic in Johannesburg where she died on Monday morning.
Does this mean her death will be incorporated into a screenplay?
Gizela Arndt of Franz Marx Films, the producers, says that's exactly what the scriptwriters are working on so viewers will have wait and see.
It's also not clear what will happen to Ernst Eloff , who pays the role of Buks, Elsa's husband, in the long-running series.
