Johannesburg - Singer Bobby van Jaarsveld, 20, narrowly escaped with his life when he was woken by a man with a knife.
The Hartbeespoort singer of Ken Jy Talina? and his father, Bob van Jaarsveld, were in a lodge at Sodwana in KwaZulu-Natal last week for a break.
Bobby woke about 03:30 on Monday morning when he heard someone whispering near his bed.
"That's when I saw the man standing there. I prayed very hard and I'm thankful today that nothing happened to me.
"Things could easily have turned out differently and I could be dead," he said on Tuesday.
Bobby said his father, who was asleep in the other room, came to his rescue, after hearing him scream during his struggle with the knifeman.
"I was still waking up when the robber demanded that I hand over my cellphone.
"Maybe it was stupid to refuse, but I told him straight that there was no way I was going to give it to him."
Frightened off the robber
Bobby said the man clearly had not expected any opposition and for a few seconds he just stood there staring at the singer.
"I just saw these enormous white, frightened eyes, something that still sticks in my head."
His father stormed into the room with his revolver and frightened off both the robber and his accomplice, who was standing outside Bobby's room.
They got away with camping gear that was on the veranda.
Bobby said: "I couldn't go back to sleep again and the next morning we drove home."
