Johannesburg - Dineke Scholtz is set to surprise TV viewers in Egoli on Tuesday, but the 7-year-old blonde from Lynnwood Glen in Pretoria says she would far rather become a gospel singer one day.
Dineke, who attends Menlo Park primary school, will make her debut as the character Zanele Greyling in M-Net's long running soapie, Egoli- Place of Gold.
"I had the best time of my life and I miss everyone on the Egoli set terribly."
Dineke went on set for the last time last Friday, after two months of hard work, and the cast and producers surprised her with a giant teddy beer.
Like a seasoned veteran, she did not want to reveal anything about her role or what happens in the story.
Upsets Rex's world
"I'm not saying much except that I'm just as cheeky in real life, as the character I portray. Other than that, everyone will have to wait and see," she chirped.
The producers have let slip that she arrives rather unexpectedly in the life Rex (Chris Linford) and thoroughly upsets his world.
Dineke enjoyed the whole experience very much and she misses Linford, Shaleen Surtie-Richards (Nenna) and Tamaryn du Toit (Cat) the most.
Her mother, Dr Dinkie Scholtz, said her daughter landed the role quite by chance.
"A friend whose two children (Heindrich and Carina Behr) were also cast in the soapie told me about a competition they were having to find a blonde girl for Egoli, and suggested that I should take Dineke for an audition."
'Fantastic group of actors'
Dineke bowled the producers over with her talent and got the role.
During shooting, she would first do her homework and then work through her script in the evenings with mom, for the next day's recordings.
"I had to take her to the set after school every day and while they were busy I would socialise with the actors. What a fantastic group they turned out to be."
Although the actions of Zanele remained a secret until Tuesday evening, Dineke did promise that it would have viewers glued to their seats in front of the telly.
