Johannesburg - Bill Flynn gave everyone that worked with him a sense of personal achievement and accomplishment, a colleague said on Thursday.
Artistic director of the Actors Centre at the Civic Theatre in Johannesburg, Steven Feinstein said Flynn's death was a great shock.
"He had worked very closely with our members in the past. Our actors also felt a sense of connection with him," said Feinstein.
"On behalf of the centre, I send condolences to his family and friends...He will be solely missed."
The National Democratic Convention (Nadeco) said Flynn was a household name and one of the best South African comedians.
Much-loved entertainment figure
"Nadeco recognises the talent that Bill had. We also mourn with the South African film and arts culture for a son lost," Nadeco said.
Flynn, 58, died on Wednesday. It was understood that he had suffered a heart attack.
He was a respected and much-loved figure in the entertainment industry.
A stage and screen actor, he was known for his roles in films including Heel Against The Head and Running Riot.
He also sang in a band, the Rock Rebels.
