Johannesburg - There's good news for Egoli fans: The popular soapie is here to stay.

M-Net on Monday officially gave the green light for filming of the soap to continue until March 2009.

Gizela Arnd, spokesperson for Egoli producers Franz Marx Films, confirmed on Monday afternoon that M-Net had signed the contract for the 17th consecutive year.

Carl Fisher, head of M-Net's Local Productions said: "Egoli has become a fixture in the homes of our subscribers and after 4 000 episodes it's still growing in terms of viewership numbers in our target market."

On Friday, Egoli will screen a special broadcast in celebration of its 4 000th episode. What exactly is planned for the "big occasion" is still a big secret.
