Cape Town - Soapie actress Michelle Botes says she's out of the closet - because she was never in it.

Everyone is wondering if the smouldering actress is gay, after she confided in a recent newspaper interview that she wanted to fall in love - and she doesn't mind if it's with a man or a woman.

    Is she gay?

"I really don't care if people think I'm gay, and I don't mind what the sexual preferences of other people are," the 45-year-old mother of two, and former wife of actor Ian Roberts told Rapport.

Michelle, who portrayed Cherel in Isidingo and is currently to be seen as Ingrid in Binnelanders, says she thinks everyone has the potential to fall in love with someone of the opposite sex - or the same one.

"It's just so incredible to fall in love, and you mustn't prescribe if you're going to give your heart to a man or a woman, Michelle said.

Although she admits that she hasn't lived day-in and day-out with a woman, the idea doesn't faze her at all.

Michelle says she doesn't fall in love easily, but when Cupid's arrow hits home...

"To be alive, is just so incredible; I don't care what other people think.

"I suppose I'm on a mission, actually. I have my children and the world's a-waiting, and there I go."

Michelle says for now she's very happy at Binnelanders and she has no other plans for the immediate future.
