Johannesburg - The SABC1 drama series Home Affairs has made it through to the semi-finals of the International Emmy awards in New York, with a double international nomination.
Brenda Ngxoli, 27, has been nominated in the category for best actress and the drama series has been given the nod to compete in the best drama-series category.
It's the second time that the International Emmy nomination has beckoned since the series was first aired in 2005.
Earlier this year the drama series came second in Switzerland's Rose Festival.
Ngxoli portrays the role of the temperamental Vuyo in the internationally-nominated drama series.
The actress, who did a degree in drama at the University of Cape Town, told City Press that she was humble and grateful for her nomination.
"I'm shocked but more humbled than ever. I'm experiencing very mixed emotions and I'm thankful to everyone who has believed in me."
Roberta Durrant, creative director and producer, said the series was making a name for itself on the international scene.
"It's a very prestigious award. We're holding thumbs for the best. I'm very excited."
Diversity of SA women
The veteran actress Trix Pienaar is in the series, and so is Therese Benade.
Home Affairs is a series about women, for women.
It provides a glimpse into the lives of six South African women and portrays the diversity of millions of South African women.
"The series looks at each one's life journey. The six main characters are unconsciously linked to each other, while their lives develop different tangents."
Durrant says women viewers have responded very emotionally to the heavy subject matter.
"There's been a stunning reaction. We touch on subjects such as women coping with breast cancer, alcoholism and abusive relationships."
