  • Johannesburg - Isidingo actor Thami Afrika is out on R3 000 bail, reported Sunday World.

Afrika, who plays the role of a lawyer in the television soapie, was arrested on Wednesday for possession of suspected stolen goods.

He appeared in the Germiston Regional Court with a Nigerian co-accused on charges of theft.

This comes after four armed men held up Alberton resident, Pertunia Mashego, in front of her gate on July 23 and hijacked her car.

Mashego then realised R2 500 had been withdrawn from her account after the four took her purse which contained her bank cards and two cellphones.

Police apparently traced the phones to Afrika.

According to Sunday World, when arrested Afrika told police that he had bought the two cellphones from a Nigerian national.

He gave his girlfriend, who was not arrested, one of the cellphones.

Afrika, together with the Nigerian national, were arrested after being summoned to the police station, where they were questioned.

According to the paper, the cellphones and their tracker had been tampered with.

Police spokesperson Superintendent Lungelo Dlamini confirmed the arrests.
