Egoli's Scab turns on the heat

Johannesburg - While Egoli's Scab is wild about his all-black attire and often Gothic make-up in the soapie, actor Izak Davel's admiring audience can't seem to get enough of his heart-throbbing good looks.
The young actor has been nominated as the fourth most gorgeous celebrity in Heat magazine's Heat Hot 100 list of the most attractive celebrities.
He was top of the list of local celebrities nominated by the fans, and they also gave him the most votes. Last year's hot (local) favourite was radio personality Nicole Fox.
This year Davel trounced the competition, which included well-known heart throbs such as the actor Nico Panagio, rugby hero Bryan Habana and singer Chris Chameleon, to take the coveted title.
'Totally surprised'
Even the international stars who usually have them weak at the knees, such as David Beckham, Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt, couldn't measure up to the local star.
"It totally surprised and delighted me when I heard the news," he said.
"And the most exciting thing about this accolade is that I have no idea what it could mean for my career in the long run."
Heat editor Melinda Shaw said they clocked 150 000 votes this year, with far more South African celebrities making it onto the list than ever before.
"It all seems to indicate 'bling' culture continues to thrive in South Africa.
Gone are the days when our readers were willing to be fed with a little spoon on what our editorial staff considered to be sexy and relevant. They want to be part of it all, now."
Very humble
Davel said he's actually quite a shy guy, and all the attention of the ladies, (and some flamboyant males) makes him a bit nervous at times.
"But I'm also glad they like me in this way, because in this industry fame and glamour are often so fleeting that I'm just enjoying all the attention and riding the wave while it's on a roll."
Davel is also very humble about it all. He definitely thinks there are others who are "hotter" and better looking than him.
