Cape Town - "I'm just so excited to be back in the Cape!" said Idols winner Jody Williams.
At 17 years, the youngest Idols winner so far, Jody was bubbling when she was greeted at Cape Town International Airport by her parents, brother and sister on Saturday.
It's the first time in four months that the slender, young girl has been home.
Jody won the coveted Idols title with 53% of the votes on December 9.
Runner-up Andriette Norman, 21, got 47% of the votes.
"It's all rather vague and hasn't sunk in yet," Jody said about her victory.
Always wanted to be a star
She won a Citroen C2, a BMG record company contract and R100 000 in cash.
Her father Derrick, 48, said the first thing they'd do was open a bank account for her.
Jody's mom, Colleen, 48, said her daughter always had wanted to be a star, even from an early age.
"When we had financial problems, she'd say 'I don't want to struggle, one day, I'm going to be a star'," said Colleen.
Watched by millions on Sunday evenings, Jody dealt with the competition and the criticism in a calm and professional way.
"She's a calm and strong person, said Colleen.
And, what about Jody's schooling?
"Jody will complete her matric in 2009," her dad said.
For the Williams family, who live in Summer Greens, the reality of their youngest daughter's victory is still overwhelming.
"We're still not able to adjust to it. She showed her critics how wrong they were," said her dad proudly.
According to him, Idols is just the start of his daughter's singing career.
"We're thinking of allowing her to take part in the international Idols competition."
Jody was on stage at the Jazz on the Rocks concert at Oudekraal on Monday, with musicians such as Jimmy Dludlu and Loyiso.
In February next year, she'll be opening the Celine Dion concerts.
