Celebs share Valentine secrets
14/02/2008 08:36  - (SA)

  • Love is all around...
  • No Valentine sex, teens told
  • Love at first sight valued most
  • Sarietha Engelbrecht and Illana Frantz, Die Burger

Cape Town - While some celebrities embrace the day of love, others are determined to dodge Cupid's love arrow.

"I hope I have enough time to get round to all the men in my life. So many men, so few hours!" says comedian Dowwe Dolla.

Several women will be spoiled should singer and comedian Emo Adams have his way. "I'm buying everybody teddy bears and cards. I'm like Father Christmas on Valentine's Day.

Is there somebody special? "Yes there is a special girl - in every town!"

Jak de Priester, the Sally Williams Nougat man, has a show at Mikro Primary School.

Afterwards De Priester, his girlfriend and his band will go for a massage before their love concert at Die Boer in Durbanville. "I also bought presents. These include a Celine Dion ticket."

Klopjag singer John Henry Opperman will celebrate Valentine's Day via Facebook. "It's quite sad, because my girlfriend is working on a ship in the US at present."

Koos Kombuis didn't want to give away all his secrets. He plans a secret picnic by candlelight, "but nobody may know where".

"I'm being spoiled every day of my life so I don't expect anything more."

Zanne Stapelberg believes every day should be a love fest. "My husband and I don't believe in buying flowers or balloons on February 14. We always show our love for each other."

Then there are those who believe the day has become too commercialised. "I believe it's a money-making racket and a commercial pitfall," says actress Vicky Davis. She will spend the day with a friend who is celebrating a birthday.

Meanwhile, two men who are seriously in love plan to play Cupid. They have bought diamond rings to the value of R70 000, says Faldie Ismael, manger of Sterns in the Canal Walk shopping centre. The heart-shaped diamonds in these rings make them special.

Florists will also be cashing in on Valentine's Day. Johan Jordaan, co-owner of Rosemary Florists in Sea Point, says they have sold more roses than last year.

His most expensive bunch of red roses cost R1 200 and he has already sold five of these bunches.
