Johannesburg - Friends, family and cast members of popular South African soapie Isidingo arrived at the Johannesburg Country Club on Thursday morning to pay their respects to actress Ashley Callie.

Callie played the role of Leone Haines in the soapie Isidingo.

She died last Friday after being involved in a car accident the week before.

Mourners battled to remain composed as guests slowly arrived.

"She was one of South Africa's most promising young actresses," said one of the guests.

A quote in the funeral programme read: "We will honour the memory of our beloved Ashley by recalling the good times we all shared with her in our special way. Rest in peace Ash - you will never be forgotten."
