  • Johannesburg - Radiant, elegant and charming are some of the words used to describe Ashley Callie at a memorial service held in Johannesburg on Thursday.

Hundreds filled the lawn at the Johannesburg Country Club, one of Ashley's favourite places, to bid her farewell.

Callie died on February 15 after being involved in a car accident a week prior.

Close family friend and master of ceremonies Kate Turkington said: "We are not going to beat our breasts or don sack cloths and ashes. We are here to celebrate Ashley's life, and what a life it was."

Callie played the role of Leone Haines in the soapie Isidingo.

Mourners battled to remain composed as guests slowly arrived earlier.

"She was one of South Africa's most promising young actresses," said one of the guests.
