Steve 'still in a lot of pain'
06/05/2008 15:33  - (SA)

  • Steve Hofmeyr 'gravely ill'
  • Steve gets emergency operation
  • 18 witnesses in Steve case
  • Birgit Ottermann

Cape Town - Steve Hofmeyr is making good progress after his emergency operation and has been transferred out of the intensive care unit of a Gauteng hospital.

"Steve has been moved from ICU around 10:00 this morning," Lindi du Preez of Hofmeyr's management Big Heart Productions told News24 on Tuesday afternoon.

The singer was rushed to hospital in the early hours of Sunday morning when he began experiencing severe pain. He underwent an emergency operation to repair a perforated colon.

According to du Preez Hofmeyr is still in a lot of pain, but doing much better. "Natasha (Steve's wife) told us he is looking much better and already giving orders," she laughed.

However, the singer will need a month to make a full recovery. "Steve is keen to give a concert in two weeks time, but the doctors said 'no way'. He needs ample time to recover."

Du Preez told News24 Hofmeyr will probably be released from hospital at the end of the week.

"Steve has been overwhelmed by all the good wishes and messages of support from his fans," says du Preez.

"We print out all the messages on Steve's blog and all the SMS's that we receive. All the support can only help Steve to a speedy recovery."
