London - Kurt Darren, one of the South African artists set to perform at an Aids benefit concert in London next month to mark Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday, said: "It is the highlight of my career and a huge privilege."

The other South African artists who were invited were Johnny Clegg, Sipho Mabuse and the Soweto Gospel Choir.

They were to share the stage with international stars, including Queen and Paul Rodgers, Annie Lennox, Simple Minds, Eddy Grant and Shirley Bassey.

Some of the world's most-famous politicians, business people and sport and entertainment stars, such as former US-president Bill Clinton, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, Oprah Winfrey, Robert de Niro, Will Smith and F1 racing driver Lewis Hamilton are due to attend the three-day celebration.

The fund-raising project is in aid of the 46664 campaign to raise awareness of HIV/Aids.

Other organisations that will benefit from the concert are the Nelson Mandela Foundation, the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund and the Mandela Rhodes Foundation.
