Bloemfontein - One of America's most-popular reality TV programmes, The Bachelor, has approached South African swimming hero and Bloemfontein's most-eligible bachelor, Ryk Neethling, 30, to take part in the series.
The programme's premise is that a bachelor is given the opportunity to choose the best possible candidate from a group of young woman with the hope of forming a long-term relationship.
But Olympic gold is more seductive than Hollywood's glitter and Ryk turned down the offer.
The filming of the series will begin in the US in September.
Ryk said he was not prepared to return to the US after the Olympic Games in Beijing.
"I just want to go back to South Africa after the Games," he said.
Will give his all
Ryk is currently in Tucson, Arizona, where he is training under the watchful eye of his coach, Frank Busch. He will depart for Korea to take part in an exercise camp on August 24.
Swim South Africa's head coach, Dirk Lange, says the relay team has not been chosen yet.
The swimmers will compete for a place in the 4x100m freestyle relay at the camp.
Ryk said: "I'm looking forward to Beijing. I'm going to go all out."
