Cape Town - Egoli fans, brace yourselves - the soapie actors will be at Steers outlets around the country to serve burgers for charity.

Proceeds from the drive will go to Food4All, which distributes food to people in need.

"I'm very happy and looking forward to Food4All," Brumilda Van Rensburg who plays Louwna, told News24.

"Every cast member will take a crew member along and sell as many burgers as possible."

"I'm taking Nicolene who does my wardrobe with me and we're also going to auction one of Louwna's evening gowns to raise extra cash."

600 people fed a day

"Last year we raised enough money to feed 600 people everyday, and we want to do better."

Co-star Michelle Pienaar agrees. "I'll be selling burgers in Northmead with my husband because no-one wanted to come with me," she quips.

Asked about her character Audrey being abused, she says that it was important for the plot to be as believable as possible.

"When they told us the storyline, we discussed it and I drew on the community where I grew up. The abuse of women was common."

Pienaar says that the first episodes of the show were difficult.

"My mom entered me in a competition and that's how I got on to the show. I had no acting experience, so the first episode was horrible - I was so petrified.

"I couldn't even hold anything because my hand was shaking so badly, but now I love it. I want to do other things, but I will stay with Egoli to the end."
