Pretoria - The lead vocalist of contemporary band, Gravity's Grace, died in a car accident in the early hours of Friday morning, the band's manager said.
Morne Bouwer, 34, was driving on Garsfontein road in Pretoria East after a gig.
He got lost and called a friend whose house he was en route to.
"He turned around and lost control," said his friend and band manager, Andre Nortje. "The car rolled and he was thrown out."
Bouwer was one of the founding members of Gravity's Grace in 2005. Their first cd, Twenty 2 Five garnered them several number 1 hits on local stations.
On Friday morning messages of support from fans were posted on the band's Facebook page.
"I just heard the news few mins ago. So sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers our with all of you and everyone whose life he has touched," wrote Jodie Block.
Nortje told News24 the funeral arrangements were being discussed. "It will definitely be an open funeral," he said.
The band was halfway through recording their second record.
Morne was popular and well-loved, according to Norje. "All the off-time he had he spent with his friends," he said. "He was a very strong and hard-working person and he had a good sense of humour as well."
