Pretoria - Singer songwriter David Aldo will join legendary singer Lionel Richie on stage in November, Big Concerts said on Monday.

"Big Concerts are thrilled to announce that one of the most prolific hit-makers in contemporary music, Lionel Richie, will tour South Africa in November this year," the concert promoter said in a statement.

"David Aldo is heading back to our shores in the company of a legend to blow us all away."

The tour, presented by 94.7 Highveld Stereo, 94.5 Kfm and East Coast Radio, will play at the Absa Stadium in Durban on November 25 and at the Coca Cola Dome in Johannesburg on November 27 and 28.

Aldo's career began after he won the Sydney Sessions Music recording project, releasing his hit Shake Up in South Africa along with a music video.

More hits followed with his first solo album in 1993 and the song I'm Yours reaching number one on the radio in South Africa and the Mediterranean.

He then followed that up with winning the Ithuba National song writing competition and Best Male Vocalist award in South Africa.

The promoter said Aldo's roots were firmly planted in SA after immigrating from England in the mid 70s with his family.

"As a singer songwriter his work within the entertainment industry is extensive."

Celebrity appearances

Some of his accolades include two number one songs off his second album, recording with the National Symphony Orchestra, recording the Olympic Song with SA stalwart Hugh Masekela, performing, judging and co-hosting duties at beauty pageants, on TV shows and at celebrity events as well as writing and performing Madiba for Nelson Mandela's 80th birthday. Madiba was later included on a Cape Town tourism CD.

After four solo albums and three compilation records Aldo moved to Los Angeles to further his burgeoning music career.

In addition to being one of the music producers for the Oprah Winfrey show he also performs up to 250 gigs a year - including a longstanding contract at the Beverly Hills Hotel where he performs to clientele from Donald Trump, Oprah Winfrey to Mick Jagger and Robbie Williams.

Aldo also performed at Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore's wedding at their home in 2005 and has played at private parties for celebrities such as Dustin Hoffman and Russell Crowe.

The Times is Aldo's 6th solo album and it consists of his most personal work up to date.

The first two singles from the album What a fine day and Someday have topped the SA radio charts.

His new single, released to coincide with the opening slot on Richie's tour, Could've Been has just shipped to radio.
